My vision for grande prairie
Our Community's Future is Our City's Business.
I immigrated to Grande Prairie over 50 years ago, and since then I have built businesses that employ more than 300 local residents across retail, construction, freight and logging, hospitality, and automotive industries. My priority is to bring strong business acumen and practical experience to City Council to ensure our city runs more efficiently—with you, our residents, at the heart of every decision.
My family is firmly rooted in this community, and I could not imagine having raised my children anywhere else. The legacy of this city now lives on in my children and grandchildren, and I want that same sense of pride to be shared by the entire community. I have always believed in giving back and helping others. In 2016, my wife Shaminder and I, together with the Sikh community, raised over $200,000 for the new hospital’s trauma room. I have also proudly served on City Council (2007–2010, 2017–2021), on the Chamber of Commerce board, and through many other community initiatives.
My commitment to this community is fierce.
I hope you'll give me the honour of representing you all once again.
What we build today will shape Grande Prairie for generations to come. From expanding trades training and strengthening programming at our college to creating more grant opportunities, I believe investments in education must be a cornerstone of our city’s future—and it will be a key priority when I am elected. I will continue to advocate for growth and opportunity that includes and benefits all residents.
This will not be my first experience on City Council. I had the honour of serving Grande Prairie from 2007–2010 and again from 2017–2021. My background in business, my proven experience in municipal governance, and my engagement at provincial and federal political levels—combined with a lifelong commitment to community building—have prepared me to serve you effectively on City Council once again.

MY PLATFORM
Strengthening Relationships with Citizens + Stakeholders
✅ Improving ties with the County and other regional stakeholders to ensure the needs of the City of Grande Prairie and surrounding communities are better represented on the provincial and national stage.
✅ Reducing red tape and expediting timelines for citizens and businesses, and accelerating permits and approvals to keep as much business within city limits as possible. I want to make Grande Prairie a more business friendly city.
✅ Reviewing and determining creative and innovative solutions to improve City revenues outside of increasing taxes on its citizens.
✅ Making sure citizens, like you, have better access to the council and decision makers to communicate ideas and concerns.
Community Safety + City Service Efficiency
✅ Prioritizing crime reduction through strengthening enforcement services and improving community crime prevention programs, and mental health services.
✅ Re-evaluating snow removal policies in the city to improve service for citizens. From minimizing snow barriers at the end of driveways and creating ‘above and beyond’ services for citizens in need, to adjusting snow removal schedules to best accommodate peak traffic times.
Continuing to Build a Thriving Community
✅ Advocating for improvements for our local airport. More direct flight destinations, and pushing for international options.
✅ Building on our reputation as a thriving hub in the region so we better attract and retain local talent in business, trades, arts, and more.
✅ Continuing to improve local post-secondary, trades, and polytechnic educational opportunities, especially considering our new regional hospital and future growth.

What People are saying
I met Yad at an event he hosted for another member of the community approximately two years ago. Since then, I have had the opportunity to get to know him better and he is exactly the type of person that we need representing us in local government.
Yad is a successful business owner that brings people together. He has real world experience, strong work ethic and an understanding of how to create opportunities that benefit the entire community. It is clear that his motivation to serve is not for personal gain, but because he genuinely cares about the future of our city and the people who call it home.

I have known Yad since childhood, and he has always been a remarkable role model and a steadfast leader in our community. Now, as a mother and wife, my young family and I look to leaders like Yad to advocate for crucial issues that matter to us - such as affordability, safety, healthcare and Indigenous initiatives.
Yad’s leadership and commitment to these causes inspire us to believe in a future where every family can thrive. We are grateful for his dedication to making our community a better place for everyone.

I’ve had the privilege of knowing Yad and Shaminder for over 30 years. Throughout this time, Yad has consistently shown himself to be someone who truly listens; engaging with people from all walks of life in our city with respect, openness, and integrity. He’s never hesitated to work across differences, and he leads with a collaborative spirit that our community needs. Yad has also been a constant source of support in my own career, and it’s an honour to now support him in his bid for City Council. I have no doubt he will serve with he same commitment and care that he’s shown throughout his life.

I’ve known Yad Minhas for nearly two decades (both professionally and personally). Yad has always been very involved in the community and has instilled these same values of community involvement into his corporate ventures.
Yad has an excellent business mindset; understanding the constant challenges of controlling expenses within the confines of revenues generated. He understands the vaule of money and the interplay of fiduciary responsiblilty and the well-being of the community. I know that with Yad’s experience, both business and his previous stay on city council, he will make a great Councilor.
~Serge Hombert, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA)

Reducing red tape and accelerating permits and approvals, making our city more business-friendly and keeping more opportunities within city limits.
Finding creative solutions to increase City revenues without placing additional tax burdens on citizens.

Re-evaluating snow removal policies to provide improved service, including minimizing driveway barriers and scheduling services around peak traffic times.

~May Enriquez-Pulumbarit, President, Filipino Association of Grande Prairie and Area (FAGPA), Student-at-Law, BA Pol. Sci., LLB
I first met Yad Minhas nearly twenty years ago when I worked with him, his multiple businesses, and his family as clients through CIBC. I was early in my career with CIBC at that time, and I remember being immediately impressed by how Yad and the Minhas family conducted their business. Their approach was not driven purely by profit or the bottom line—it was rooted in community, relationships, and a genuine care for people, as well as a long-term vision.
What stood out to me, even then, was that their success came from lifting others up. They built thriving businesses by focusing on their employees, their family, and their community, rather than taking a cutthroat or purely transactional approach. It left a lasting impression on me as a young professional meeting many successful business owners. The Minhas family was different—values-based, grounded, and community-minded.
Yad is also one of the most loyal people I have met. His word means something, and he stands by the people and principles he believes in. That loyalty, combined with his balanced and thoughtful decision-making, makes him a trusted and respected leader.
Over the years, I’ve left the bank and built my own company, but I often think back to those early lessons from Yad. His example of integrity, balance, and leadership has influenced how I try to conduct myself in business and in life. He looks at every situation holistically—considering not only profit, but also people, community, and long-term impact.
Even twenty years later, long after our initial business relationship, I’ve stayed in touch with Yad because I continue to admire the person he is and what he stands for. His story—coming to Canada, building successful businesses, raising a strong family, and continually giving back—is remarkable.
Yad Minhas is exactly the kind of leader Grande Prairie’s community needs: thoughtful, principled, loyal, and deeply invested in the wellbeing of others. I’m proud to support him in his campaign for City Council.
~Brock A. Rogerson, Managing Partner, R2 Capital Partners
I have had the privilege of knowing Yad Minhas and his wonderful family for 25 years. In fact, I consider him and his family to be an extension of my own. Over all this time, I've watched him live his life with an unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and everyone he works
Yad is a true family man, and that deep-rooted care is what he brings to every part of his life. It’s no surprise that he is known for going to great lengths to help his neighbors and community members. Whether it’s volunteering, offering help during a tough time, or tackling a local issue head-on, he is always the first one to step up and make a difference.
This dedication isn't limited to the community, either. I’ve seen firsthand how he treats his staff and business partners with respect, integrity, and a genuine desire for their success. He understands that strong relationships and mutual support are the foundation of a healthy community and a successful business.
